A Must Read

O, Draconian devil!
Oh, lame saint!

If you don’t understand what these lines mean, then do yourself a favor and read this book, it’s one the best novels I’ve read.

A Better Brain

Sleep is when your brain processes new memories, practises and hones new skills – and even solves problems. Say you’re trying to master a new video game. Instead of grinding away into the small hours, you would be better off playing for a couple of hours, then going to bed. While you are asleep your brain will reactivate the circuits it was using as you learned the game, rehearse them, and then shunt the new memories into long-term storage. When you wake up, hey presto! You will be a better player.

11 steps to a better brain is a very interesting read. Turns out that us, programmers, really should stop living on pizza and diet coke and actually get some sleep. Enjoy!

AMD goes X2

If you must pay more for some reason, the Athlon 64 X2 4800+ will give you the best all-around performance we’ve ever seen from a “single” CPU. The X2 4800+ beats out the Pentium Extreme Edition 840 virtually across the board, even in tests that use four threads to take best advantage of the Extreme Edition 840′s Hyper-Threading capabilities. The difference becomes even more pronounced in single-threaded applications, including games, where the Pentium XE 840 is near the bottom of the pack and the X2 4800+ is constantly near the top. The X2 4800+ also consumes considerably less power, both at idle and under load.

Ahh, music to my ears. Apparently, AMD’s release of Athlon64 X2, Creative’s release of X-Fi changes my dream PC’s specifications. I’m not going to wait for M2 or DDR2 support, I know it’s going to be fast, but it’s a long time to wait until 2006, DDR should be sufficient for the time being.

Just can’t stop loving AMD!

Big Red Button

I dare you to stop clicking this, no really.

Thanks Bob.

My Zen iCro, er… Micro

The PacketShaper sessions that I was attending currently were very important to me, at least from a business prespective, so I needed to record them one way or another. Well, my laptop isn’t much capable of doing that, first, the microphone isn’t really that good, and the battery lifetime wouldn’t handle a 9am-6pm session. So I figured this time I should buy myself an iPod.

I can’t really talk much about the iPod, I mean I tried it a couple of times, some of my friends have it, but I didn’t have a chance to try it on a daily basis. I’ve heard so much about this “thing” called iPod, and I thought since everybody loved it this much then it should be my best option. Problem is, it’s not.
