I wish GoPHP5.org succeed in getting more hosts and projects on board. If this evil plan works out, we won’t hear about PHP4 anymore.
Basically, all signed up hosting companies and PHP projects are going to require PHP 5.2 as a minimum as off February 5th. That’s great news for the PHP community, because the only that was keeping PHP back was PHP itself. Version 4 was too good for its own sake.
I think PHP5 (and soon 6) could be revived—if only they paid more attention to compatibility. PHP can target the only week spot of Rails, namely deployment, especially that it still enjoys the crown of the most widely-available hosted language. Believe it or not, Rails isn’t the only way to do it, some still love PHP.
P.S. I had to cut this short. I’m very sick today, and barely able to talk.
